About Mia Kerr
Meet Mia Kerr, the author behind "The Adventures of Haggis the Cat".
Discover the inspiration and heart woven insights into her children's stories, straight from Melbourne, Australia.

The story behind Haggis
Haggis the Cat was more than just a pet; he was family to Jordan, Sophie, Kieran, and the whole Kerr family. Funny, intelligent, loyal, handsome and inquisitive, Haggis left a giant hole when he passed away suddenly. Inspired by the family's grief and the antics of Haggis, Mia began writing his stories to heal and capture his spirit. Set in real Melbourne suburbs, "The Adventures of Haggis the Cat" brings to life the joy of having a cat in an Australian family. There are a series of books. Book 1 is set in Cheltenham 3192. A suburb in the South East of Melbourne.
Recently, Millie, Haggis’s mother passed away in September 2025. She was 20 years old and the oldest cat in the suburb of Brighton 3186. Mia is working on another two different style of books in the memory of Millie and will be launched in 2026.

A cat's-eye view of the world
Mia's writing invites young readers to see the world through the eyes of a cat in an Australian family. Her stories capture the unique perspective and adventures of Haggis, making it relatable and engaging for children. Aimed at age 6-9 years.

More than just a story
Mia hopes to share the importance of family, including our beloved pets. Her stories touch on themes like loving a special needs cat, appreciating Australian wildlife, and understanding neighbours with dementia. Through her books, Mia also commemorates real friends' pets, both living and passed, preserving their memories within her tales.
"Seeing the books come to life through watercolour illustrations has been the most rewarding part of this journey. I'm fortunate to work with an illustrator who truly captures my vision."
